Hi there! My name is Dr. Shaime Cortes Vega. I have been a public-school educator since 2009. I graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. When I began my journey as a special education middle school teacher, I decided to go to graduate school. While teaching, I completed a Master’s of Education in Collaborative Teaching and Learning from Florida Southern College, Doctorate of Education in Leadership, my ESOL endorsement, and my Reading Endorsement. After I taught special education social studies and English Language Arts in grades 6-8, I transitioned to elementary. While there, I taught regular education 4th and 5th grades. I learned to love and have fun with math, but literacy will always be my true passion. I am currently serving my school as a Literacy Instructional Coach (K-5). In this position, I get to collaborate with teachers on best practices, plan lessons, and the best part is showing children how to read. One of the greatest joys in education (besides getting to teach and help children grow) is the collaboration we can have as educators. I really do enjoy sharing ideas and creating engaging lesson materials with my peers. This is one of the main reasons I’m so excited to join the ETTC team. Teacher collaboration and literacy are my jam. When I’m not at school, I am a wife, caregiver for my elderly parents, momma to a sweet little girl, aspiring author, and lover of all things nerd – anime included.
